Recycling your medication or inhalers

Non-urgent advice: Together we can avoid medication waste

We as a practice constantly review the medications we prescribe to our patients to ensure they are used optimally, are not wasted and to reduce financial or environmental strain. We also try to promote recycling of medications or inhalers, you can see some of our posters below which will provide you with information about how and where you can do this.

Did you know that it has been reported by the Department of Health that an estimate of £300 million every year goes on unused medications! This, as well as environmental impact on ecosystems from non-recyclable plastic packaging, is enough to put our foot down and avoid medication waste.

What can we do?

Check your medication as soon as it is collected and return any items you may not have expected.

Avoid reordering and stock-piling

Recycle your blister packs

Return your inhalers instead of just disposing of them in local waste

Check the medication you have been prescribed with your GP to see if it could be reduced or if there is a non medication alternative
